No, there are no African elephants in Pafos. They imported two young, female Asian elephants from Bangladesh in 2015. One animal died after only one year in Cyprus. The other ten-year-old female lives alone in the enclosure since then.
While I wouldn't trust everything the map says, apparently the zoo is welcoming another elephant? Not entirely sure though, hopefully I will be able to visit sometime later this year to get a sense of the changes that have taken place.
It is is happening, great news for the lone elephant, but I do hope the exhibit is enlarged because it was really lacking in both space and enrichment last time I went.
