When I visited the Alaska Zoo in 2007 there was still a single female African elephant in this enclosure. They had rigged up a treadmill for her in the barn for when she was stuck inside during cold weather (which is obviously for long periods of time in Alaska). It apparently cost around 500,000 dollars and was never really used.
@DavidBrown Im fascinated by the fact there was an elephant in Alaska so recently. I tried to find a video to now avail, nor an pictures of her exhibit.
@DelacoursLangur According to local @Pleistohorse it was going to be for moose (which is what I posted in the photo caption). Hopefully he will see this tag and let us know if that ever happened.
@Arizona Docent the barn is not used to hold Moose, however they have fenced off a section of the old elephant yard and this summer there was a moose in it. This last visit the Moose was up closer to the coyote yard and I did not check to see if the enclosure extended back and around to the old elephant yard, but I believe it might.
