This series of bear grottoes look worse and worse as the years go by. For a zoo of the caliber of San Diego, one would think that this entire section of the zoo must be next on the list of things to overhaul. The corn crib monkey (and aye-aye!) cages, the bear grottoes and the smoothing out of what is an extremely steep visitor pathway, would combine to create a wonderful new area. The problem is that the effort will likely set the zoo back tens of millions of dollars and San Diego is already spending approximately $70 million on its new Children's Zoo.
