@snowleopard While im glad they stopped exhibiting whales as I agree it is far too small. IMO its not a very engaging for the largest pool to be inhabited by the often inactive harbor seals. My hope is that long term if breeding efforts are successful this could be used for returning Walruses in the future.
@Wyman Oh I know, I should have mentioned them as well. Still it was a pretty small group of them and at least when I last visited all the visitors seemed to pass it without much notice..
@MonkeyBat Hopefully not in the same tank, I remember visiting them as a little kid and it was really too small and shallow for them... Dont get me wrong I would love to be able to visit whales again in my area, I just cant imagine there is the public support or capital for such an undertaking.
IMO Point Defiance's top priorities should be to follow through on the current master plan with an expansion to the polar bear complex (crossing my fingers they keep the arctic fox exhibit as is as its fantastic), replacing the boring camel rides with a new Australia complex, and completely renovating the now abandoned former aquarium into a South America greenhouse. Perhaps with manatees in the former main tank who knows
Buut with the current financial climate and considering the fact they just built a massive new aquarium complex Im not holding my breath on any of these being built in the near future.
