Taken 12/3/20. This exhibit complex opened in 2018 and houses 7 exhibits, including a central large savanna exhibit around which the others are grouped. An entry village, a remote hut grouping, and a private events area called The Reserve are also featured.

How does the Fort Worth Zoo African savanna complex stack up compared to the one at the neighboring Dallas Zoo?

What was your overall impression of the Fort Worth Zoo?

This new complex is very fine, but not superior to Dallas. The most notable difference is that the main savanna habitat can be completely circumambulated here, while at Dallas the views are almost entirely from one side (although their main savanna habitat is larger and can be separated in sections).

I enjoy the Fort Worth Zoo, and it is in the process of catching up to the quality of Dallas; Fort Worth is opening their new Asian elephant exhibit soon, and is in early construction of a series of new/refurbished habitats that look promising. With Dallas recently closing their fine monorail attraction with all its excellent hoofstock exhibits (major mistake in my view), the two zoos are soon to be balanced.
