Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax)

Close to the beach in Parati.
We we're hearing kids playing in the background and the heron didn't seem to be annoyed. No idea of the amphibian speice.

Oh, Paraty is awesome! I just love that place. There are quite great jungles near the beach where you can birdwatch indeed, specially the "pedra que engole".

These night/striated herons in general don't seem to worry a lot about people's noises when they're hunting. I've seen them catching tadpoles in Arraial do cabo (also in the state of Rio, and considerably near to Paraty) while many people walked around and made a lot of noise. They're such focused predators.
