Shark ID?

Looks similar to Speckled Carpetshark, but the spots don't match up perfectly to other images of the species so I'm not sure

I think this is an epaulette shark (Hemiscyllium ocellatum). The large black spot with a white ring near the pectoral fins is quite diagnostic for that species.

@KevinB I don't think so, the spots on this one are much smaller and more numerous than H. ocellatum. There are a couple related species that also have the large black spot.

I'm not entirely sure which species of shark this is, but I'm very confident it's one of the nine sharks from the genus Hemiscyllium. I have found a picture of a comparison of all nine species, and my best guess is picture A.

I would agree with Hemiscyllium trispeculare, the closest species that looks to this imo is the Hemiscyllium freycineti, but that one can be ruled out looking at the black circle on your shark, and the stripes not being very present.

Yes, Speckled carpetshark or Leopard epaulette shark. The latter species has very varying patterns so can't really say for sure, but can certainly have the rosettes as seen here as well as the large black spot and the stripes on the fins.

@amur leopard

most Hemiscyllium michaeli have a lot of pattern in their dorsal fins, which is not the case here, and which is also not the case for H. trispeculare.

If you look closely to the big black spot on the image above, you see that the dark colouration extends out of the circle, something pro H. trispeculare and against H. michaeli
