Cervus nippon mandarinus
Not the best picture by any means— given it was taken at an awkward angle from the passenger seat of a Jeep— but given he is the last of his kind, I thought it was worth sharing all the same!

@Westcoastperson I did a tour though the Asian Plains a few years ago and loved it! Our guide was fantastic and gave great information. Incredibly enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. The views were hit and miss. It was hard to view anything that was in center field exhibits as they were so far away, but we also got to get up close with a pregnant Indian rhino. It was also great to see tons of tropical ungulates that are scarce in many institutions. Would definitely recommend it.

Is he the last of his kind just at the safari park, or the last of his kind period?

@OkapiFan He is very likely the last of this subspecies outside of Asia. There are no others on public display, and I can find no reference of any existing in private hands (although there very well might be Mandarin blood in these animals).
