@snowleopard I have been a little surprised at how infrequently people visit it from here, I assume it's the driving around/through NYC that's the issue. I'd been putting off visiting, waiting for a nearby place to open again, but now that they finally did, you have to book a timed arrival and it's 15 minute slots, which just isn't feasible with all of the potential traffic issues. I thought about stopping at one of the various game farm places after the aquarium but it was the first 90 degree day here and I didn't feel like pushing myself for some fallow deer and zebras.
I visited the New York Aquarium and Long Island Aquarium on the same day back in the summer of 2012, with a two hour drive between the pair of facilities. I just re-read the review from my 'Snowleopard's 2012 Road Trip' thread and I complained about the price of $31.50 and how the aquarium had a lot of potential 'extras' that cost more money. Looking at the aquarium's website today, the ticket price for an adult is now $43.44 US including tax (about $52 Canadian for me) and that's a very steep price!
@snowleopard It is, which made me even more annoyed about the surprise $12 for parking! New York Aquarium is cheaper than that, and where I was planning on going to go that day, but the only available tickets were for 3pm. I'm very eager to go back to not needing to buy tickets in advance Their experiences are fairly cheap, at least - $20 for the sea lion photo - but it adds up very, very quickly.
