Lord Howe Island stick insect (Dryococelus australis)

The four adult females on show don't leave their box during the day so this was a rare glimpse.

So the box was opened for you? I didn't know there were four in that tank but considering LHISI is such an interesting conservation story, I think they should make more of them display-wise.
 
@Pertinax yes it was.

It's a tough call, the priority will presumably be getting them to lay rather than trying to display them. I remember a while ago they had the box up against the side of the viv so you could see them, but this was removed so presumably they weren't a fan of it. Being crepuscular presents difficulties, I don't know if they can perceive red light; phasmids have got pretty good vision so they might be able to see through the red film often used for insects.
