@Sarus Crane In my experience never (unless you're really stupid). At least not in my complex, they are so used to people, they ignore you. If someone makes a loud noise they startle (though they start to run away, not towards the person). But as long as I observe them quietly I can sit within six feet of them feeding and they pay me no attention.
 
@Arizona Docent I've been lucky to handle a javelina skull in a museum collection and it's really interesting and scary how they naturally grind against each other to keep them in top condition. I've seen footage of a javelina fight and it looks pretty brutal!
 
@Sarus Crane I have seen them fighting here too and it does appear brutal (though I witnessed no permanent damage inflicted). Even during these short spats with one another, they ignored my presence.
