Cholla are definitely a good predator deterrent, not much would feel like trying to reach that nest!

@Great Argus when you are exploring parts of the Sonoran Desert where they are present, have a hair comb in your pocket. I usually don't use one as I have a shaved head, but it will be useful for these purposes of spine extraction...
