The old male chimps Boris, Friday and Nicky all had minor surgery a few days before my visit. They were kept together, but separated from the other chimps to give them time to heal. The guide at the Chimp House told me that she thought this is Nicky, but after close study I think it is Friday - although they are quite similar in appearance. He seems to have had some work done on his left ear, and perhaps more that I couldn't see. I couldn't catch a glimpse of Nicky.
@PossumRoach I don't know the answer, because I don't know exactly which procedures were performed on each chimp and as I had not seen them since last October I don't know any details about their health problems. However I am sure that vets, the primate team and the zoo's management would not have considered any surgery without good reason.
