I think that red fox one was where the otters are now? The bobcat exhibit isn't nearly as deep. Maybe @snowleopard will know. @Arizona Docent much, much too small for a pinniped. It is a large pool for a bobcat, but not nearly big enough for a seal or something.
@TinoPup The otters have been in the same exhibit since Maryland Wilderness opened though. If you look at the zoos press releases when they renovated for bobcats it mentions the previous inhabitants were red fox.
@TinoPupe The exhibit has always held otters. @nczoofan is correct. The article link mentions that the exhibit WILL exhibit beavers, but that never happened. The black bears that were exhibited in the now current bobcat exhibit only held cubs for a few years before moving to the former bear pits behind the now current prairie dog exhibit. After the bears, the exhibit held several red foxes and a variety of turtles as mentioned before being converted for bobcats.
Before the zoo received two orphaned grizzly cubs in 2016, plans included adding a black bear and coyote exhibit past the cave, but that has since been removed as a priority Additional focus in Maryland Wildness includes rebranding the exhibit to American Wildness and possibly include wolves, cougars, and elk.
@NAIB Volunteer It's the phrasing. I cannot find any evidence that the exhibit held otters at opening. There are currently no plans to change the focus of MW or add new large exhibits.
@TinoPup I talked to a few volunteers right around when the African Journey renovation was complete and they had mentioned the rebranding, but perhaps I either misremembered or they were mistaken. Thanks for clarifying
