Taken 3/31/21. Located in Galveston, Texas, this attraction features The Rainforest inside a pyramid building with 50 exhibits, and The Aquarium inside another pyramid building with 29 exhibits.
Moody Gardens is a great establishment and with around 80 exhibits between the two pyramids (Aquarium and Rainforest) there's certainly a lot to see. It was always going to be a lock for the Top 100 book that I co-wrote with Tim Brown, but one major flaw is the pinniped habitat. A parallel could be drawn with Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, as both Shedd and Moody Gardens have a single pinniped exhibit that is entirely indoors and way too small. I'm really surprised that Moody Gardens hasn't expanded to include animal enclosures outdoors, as there is a great deal of space outside the pyramids.
@geomorph Did you go inside the Discovery Pyramid? That is the only one of the trio without any animal exhibits and so most zoo nerds skip it.
@snowleopard Yes I went in the Discovery Museum, which is a two-level space for rotating kid-friendly exhibits; I briefly looked at the skeleton-themed exhibit that was featured. However I did not go in the theaters that are in the visitor center building that play 3d and 4d films.
