Well that has to be one of the most beetle looking beetles I’ve ever seen. I am going to say it is a Hister Beetle. Now Hister Beetles have 3,900 species and I don’t think I’m going to be able to get an exact species but it’s definitely in Histeridae.
 
@Westcoastperson - Hister Beetles are tiny.

@TinoPup - I can't really see much from the photo (it's too small), but have a look at photos of female Dynastes tityus and see if that looks right. They are typically pale brown with a sort of spotty-blotchy pattern but in high humidity they turn very dark brown (with the patterning still visible but indistinct).
 
Yeah I would agree with female Dynastes tityus, looks pretty much identical to several photos of the species. Also aligns well with the apparent size and stated location.
 
Thanks everyone! That looks correct. I saw it again yesterday morning, it got stuck upside down on the stairs, so sent Argus a couple of better photos (including a size comparison with a Tide pen... couldn't find a darn thing in the basement that would work better for measurement :D )
