Tweeters and Friends - hybrid Australian Ringneck (Barnardius zonarius)

July 2021
Tweeters and Friends is just north of Palmerston North (in the lower North Island), and is a pet store with an attached "parrot park" (with an entrance fee). There are about forty aviaries here, mostly housing parrots and parakeets.

This bird is one half of the pair of Twenty-eight Parrots (as they are labelled) but they are pretty clearly hybrids with one of the other subspecies, probably Port Lincoln Parrots. Twenty-eight Parrots (B. z. semitorquatus) have a red forehead and a green belly, whereas Port Lincoln Parrots (B. z. zonarius) have no red forehead and a yellow belly.
