New for 2021 is an exhibit highlighting the invasive snakehead fish which is endemic to China and Southeast Asia. The snakeheads have replaced the Japanese giant salamanders who have not lived on Asia Trail for quite sometime now.
As much as I'm sad the salamanders have left, what a genius replacement! An Asian species that has caused such trouble in the D.C/Maryland area is a perfect replacement!
@MonkeyBat The Japanese giant salamanders are still at the Zoo - they have a very nice exhibit in the Reptile Discovery Center. I would suspect the outdoor aquarium for them was tricky to maintain the proper water chemistry. Certainly agree that the snakeheads are a great addition!
