The most rare encounter ever I guess. Two females, Javan Leopard and Missouri cougar, now living together.

Wow. Nice shot!
An interesting arrangement. Are there not enough male Javan leopards to consider breeding?

Javan Leopard....

Does anyone else think this could end in tears? Two naturally unsocial cats, one at least known for occasional cannibalism, both female & presumably cycling, with attendant hormonal fluctuations & frustrations....
South Lakes might like to try this one though.

The story behind this:

Both cats were born not that long ago in Tierpark and are just subadults. The leopards were twins (1,1) and after the male was send to Praha zoo, the sister was becoming more and more shy and introverted, because she was alone.
The cougar is handrared and the only survivor of a litter of three. She could only see other cats through a fence and had some day to learn some real behaviore from a cat of the same age.

The do very well together and slowly the cougar learning to be a cat and the leopard is again happy and playful.

Excellent, thanks for that. I wonder how long the Tierpark will be able to keep them together for.

I have seen lots of instances of big cats living together in captive situations. Although they are solitary in the wild (lions excepted), they seem to do well in groups in captivity as long as they can be fed separately.
