gentle lemur

Broad-nosed gentle lemur, ~6 weeks old

Enclosure inside Madagascar walk-through, 26th July 2021.
Prolemur simus.
I was surprised that the mothers of this species usually carry their infants horizontally around their waists, so that the baby rests on one if its mother's thighs, with its tail wrapped around her back. Perhaps it lets the mother use both hands to manipulate bamboo - I guess that like giant pandas, these lemurs must eat a relatively large amount of bamboo to get enough nourishment each day.
