Tiger (sub) species?

As someone who has (despite being pretty good at mammal ID) extreme difficulty telling tiger (sub) species apart, can anyone give their view on this one?
Labelled 'Indochinese' (i.e. Malayan) - exterior Alfred-Brehm house enclosure.
From a previous thread, I know that the Tierpark holds Amur, Sumatran & Malayan. I guess one is off-show while the other two are on show and they change the signs?

To my eye, I would have guessed that this photo was of the Amur, and that the other photo was of the Malayan - primarily because this photo seems a little too pale and thinly striped for a Malayan.

Thank you,

That does largely confirm my suspicions.....however, the other piece of evidence is that the ones in this enclosure had cubs, and on another thread, it was suggested that only the jacksoni had cubs in May 2012.

A shame that the precise scale of each animal is hard to determine in these photos, as the size difference between Amur and Malayan is pretty stark, the Malayan being only slightly bigger than a Sumatran.

Indeed.....

I guess (if we are considering incorrect labelling) that one of them could also be Sumatran!

That is the other possibility - in which case i would imagine it was the one labelled as Amur that would be incorrect, based on what you say regarding the Malayan births.

I plan to visit the Berlin collections this year, so hopefully I'll be able to judge the issue for myself before too long.

Would be interesting to see if the signage actually changes. Enjoy the Berlin collections.....you will love it!

Malayan female 'Sarai'

They change the signs always, because this is a collection with rare animals and the director wants people to know what they see here!

Thanks Animal.......your authority is very reassuring! ;)

No need to update my labelling then!

Thanks again for sorting my tiger issues out yet again.
