@David Matos Mendes Detroit keeps generics, and the Giraffe TAG recommends breeding said generics to "pose" as either Reticulated or Rothschild's giraffes. The only pure giraffes, at least in North America, are Masais.

Well, so generic giraffes keep being bred? That's curious. What's the purpose in this? About the pureness of giraffe species, in South America (or at least in Brazil) there are pure Rothschild and south african giraffes, as they come from relatively recently wild caught individuals (in the case of the s. africans) or from european genetically pure populations (case of the roths).
