The small hill is indeed a nice touch, but that middle tree is absolutely ugly and the exhibit has been devoid of grass for a while (probably in no small part to the zebras). If they swapped the zebras out for sables, and brought ostrich and gazelle back into the mix, we'd have a much better product. Maybe even some cape teal or Egyptian goose would be nice to see.
@StoppableSan -- All of the animals you suggest would all still result in a grassless exhibit -- both from grazing and just from them being large animals walking over the same land again and again and again -- especially if they were all housed together. This exhibit is not large enough to sustain that. As someone that has worked with sable, adding them, in general, would be an ill-advised move. Sable do not do well in mixed-species enclosures unless there is more than enough room for the other animals to get out of their way. They are territorial and aggressive and have been known to kill other animals (including giraffe) even in large enough enclosures. That's also not taking into account the fact that they are very difficult to manage in a traditional zoo setting because there needs to be enough off-exhibit space to work them completely protected contact and to separate out any males or to manage any hierarchy struggles amongst the females. Female sable have very tight hierarchies in their herds and any shifts can come with quite a bit of drama and aggression. Also as a result of this, it is extremely difficult to introduce non-related females into an established herd without the risk of the female being introduced being seriously injured or killed. They are incredible animals, but there's a reason why you don't see them in traditional zoo settings or in mixed-species situations very often. That said, on top of that, there's probably a black and white striped reason the other animals are now missing from the exhibit, as well...
