@snowleopard Overall, it's one of the better areas of the zoo.
Good:
-Some uncommon species
-Mostly appropriate sized exhibits
-The theming for Jungle Odyssey is among the best I've seen anywhere. It's really lush, with lots of things along the path for kids to do, hidden animal details in the rocks, lots of neat things like that.
-Tomisomas outside with underwater viewing
-Indoor viewing for cloudeds, warty pigs, and the primate (forget which species).
-The primate island area is really nice looking.
Bad:
-Jungle Odyssey is only open a couple months of the year! It's weather dependent/weekends for several other months, and closed the rest. Islands is open, but you can only see the three species with indoor viewing. Their website doesn't tell you this! It doesn't tell you Kids Kingdom gets closed, either.
-The viewing windows for the few species with indoor viewing get so much condensation you can't see anything, making them pointless (I posted photos last December).
-The indoor areas are really small for the pigs and cloudeds.
-There's no indoor viewing for the species with really dense vegetation in their exhibits (ocelot and fossa).
-I have no idea if the large building is open to the public or not, and the paths around it are a bit confusing.
-Most of the path for Jungle has no exhibits, it's just walking up the steep hill.
-No signage explaining the islands.
-Lack of benches (and bathrooms, etc).
-I mentioned this in another comment, but the path down from the jungle sucks. No shade, and it's in direct sun at the very top of the zoo. Your only options are that path, or going back down and retracing your steps, when the path is fairly narrow and you're only supposed to go one way.
@snowleopard I really want to like the zoo but there's so much wrong with it. The employees have all been super rude, as well, with the exception of the aquarium gift shop staff and those working at the food vendors. I probably won't be doing the 5 hour drive again.
