At the Laafsekikkers I saw an image of an aviary for the flamingos. Smaller than their normal exhibit, but still allowing them safe outdoor access and a bit more living space.
This picture was taken last week. When they were still busy building. I asked a keeper and he said "we're expanding the enclosure so they can safely go outside".
I did see some ropes and I speculated an aviary, but I wasn't sure.
Kind of a shame, I was really hoping they would pull a blijdorp on us and build a proper aviary for this species. They had drained and opened up the water area, so I was really hoping for a proper enclosure
@Mr Gharial Given the pinioning ban in the Netherlands (and pinioning also generally being less favored nowadays, even in countries that still allow it) I expect we will see more large aviaries for birds like flamingos and pelicans in the future.
