One of my favorite small cat species, and as such one I am always very pleased to see displayed in a collection. I felt that this particular subspecies of Geoffroy's Cat resembles the Oncilla rather more than do other subspecies I have observed.

Even though I have a splitter mentality and like to recognzie as many subspecies as legitimately possible for a species, I will say that I came across an article that says Leopardus geoffroyi should be a monotypic species, what is your opinion on that ?
I have never heard of subspecies of Geoffroys, but I also have not tried to look. I just know the ones I have seen only list the full species name. I will admit these appear to have much lighter spotting than those I have seen, which would make sense for animals living in the semi-desert Chaco.
It is indeed an interesting article; however as the majority opinion remains that there are four valid subspecies, and this paper is very new and no other research on the matter has followed, for the present I choose to retain the traditional taxonomy. Certainly the three subspecies I have seen were all noticeably different in appearance.

Might just be me having a brain freeze, but what/where were the three? All the current animals listed on Zootierliste are only listed as either generic or salinarum.
Did some rooting around awhile back regarding the origin of the various animals around in the UK; Bart at Dudley derives from the same stock as those formerly held at Chester, which were all paraguae whilst those I saw at Colchester (and hence presumably the Banham stock) are nominate. I suspect from photographs that most of the ones listed as generic on ZTL are either nominate or nominate x salinarum, as I can't find any evidence of any remaining paraguae outside Dudley.
