I really enjoyed Oklahoma City Zoo when I visited in the summer of 2008, but since then there have been many excellent additions. The Children's Zoo, the Elephant Habitat, the Zoo Museum (is that tiny building still open?), Sanctuary Asia, a new Animal Hospital, Predator Pass and the future Expedition Africa. Oklahoma Trails (2007) was new when I was there, and so altogether more than half the zoo has been overhauled since 2007. Wow! I know that a brand-new Herpetarium has been mentioned many times in the past and obviously a new Reptile House will be in Oklahoma City Zoo's long-term future as well as the upcoming African complex. I would really like to go back one day, as the zoo must still be one of the best in the country.
@snowleopard I'd really like to see a new Herpetarium; I'll post my review tomorrow, but basically the structural design of the inside is not effective for visitors or for a post-COVID world (the collection is solid though). Other than that, I agree with you that it's a strong zoo throughout and it's at least in the upper tiers of ones I've visited.
@snowleopard Forgot to answer: according to the website the Zoo Museum is still open; I missed it on account of walking past it on the wrong side and then coming down a different way. I don't know of any animals in there and I finished 15 minutes before closing so I'm not sure I would've had the time for it.
@Ggrarl A lot of hoofstock paddocks seem to have been taken out as well. Not all of the animals are gone though: the Indian rhinos, giant tortoises, and flamingos at least were all moved to new exhibits throughout the zoo.
