The Pachyderm House will not be renovated or remodeled and instead will be completely demolished. It’s been a thorn in the zoos side for years now having to maintain it and has stifled progress in other areas. Once it is gone, there will likely be an expansion of Habitat Africa taking up the space but this won’t happen for several years.
I definitely think there is a good chance pygmy hippos will come back in the future whether that be while the Pachyderm House still exists or in a brand new exhibit down the line. While I personally would love to see it, common hippos are very unlikely at this point and elephants are iffy at best.
@pachyderm pro that's good to hear, when will they be tearing it down? And where will the rhinos go when they are working on the Habitat Africa expansion?
@Animals R AMAZING! Wish I had more information but unfortunately I do not have answers to either of your questions at the moment. The zoos next major project is a renovation of Tropic World and new gorilla and orangutan exhibits, and that won’t be done until 2025 at the earliest so that’s probably the soonest time demolition on the Pachyderm House will occur.
