@LionTamarin this is just one part of the habitat. If you took a second to look at the next few pictures, you would’ve seen the beautiful, well-planted outdoor habitat. Pretty much all zoos have caged indoor enclosures for their chimps but I highly doubt any zoo would be allowed to keep their chimps in those 24/7.
The picture was taken 3 weeks before the chimps moved to Hodonin and the exhibit was closed forever (?). Since October the indoor enclosures will get a makeover. When the chimps return to Brno the new outdoor exhibit can be used.
The ape house was opened in the 1960's. I think cages like this one were quite common in the past, but should be replaced as soon as psssible.
