I also saw and photographed this bird on my trip, and identified it as a female Northern Red Bishop. However now that you mention it, it does look like one so you may be correct.
@BerdNerd I saw that photo and agree it's the same bird, but I don't think the Northern Red Bishop ID was correct. House Finch is the tentative ID but I thought it was worth seeing if other people had ideas.
