Thanks @twilighter for uploading a series of fantastic images from Hagenbeck. This whole rocky section of the zoo is phenomenal, and iconic, except for the awful lion exhibit. That particular enclosure is extremely small and the indoor cages are outdated. Other than the lions, the whole thing is spectacular.
Kind words @snowleopard ! I'm making a lot of pictures sometimes trying to see the things from different perspectives. The winter is probably not the best time to apritiate this iconic complex. But even now after more than 100 years it looks genius. The different groups of animals can be seen on a different levels in harmonious and spectacular whole! And there is no cross vision between the public! Contemporary multimillion exhibits sometimes can't achieve that. The Lion exhibit is unfortunately the low point. But how to destroy it? I've seen the Bronx's legendary African panorama and now know, where they got the idea from.
It's a bit sad that some parts of the zoo are so outdated and unimpressive...
