Hippopotamus - Riga Zoo 2015

From what I know, there are two hippos in the Riga Zoo. Unfortunately for them, however, where the zoo has a number of exhibits that could be described as "decent", or "relatively good", the hippo's housing is by far amongst the most subpar in the zoo - esque to a zoo of the 70s, built not for the..
..hippo itself, but for the spectator's viewing of the hippo. Barely more than a concrete platform with a moat and indoor housing [also subpar from what I see]. Seeing as the zoo recently invested in a fairly good savannah exhibit, several orders of magnitude better than what the zebras had before, I do hope that there is at least planning for the hippos to have something more interesting to live in than what they already do. And it appears I am not alone in this opinion.

*Correction, the zebras I was mentioning likely never saw the savannah exhibit - apparently there are Grevy's zebras there, which leads me to believe Riga conducted a phase-out of the more common species. But the point still remains that if the zoo is capable of an exhibit like the Savannah one, they may well be capable of building something more interesting for the hippos. But seeing as the hippos are elderly at this point anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if there are no plans to immediately transport the hippos, and when there are no hippos left, they may well get rid of the exhibit entirely, or repurpose it somehow. Perhaps for Pygmy Hippos, which I guess would need some more foliage, but I wouldn't find it impossible.
