Berlin Zoo - Monkey House

The monkey house in Berlin Zoo. Almost all of the indoor exhibits looks like these, made of concrete, and pretty boring, and the outdoor exhibits aren't fantastic either. Although, the zoo has a lot of monkey species, many of them are very rare, like Javan Langurs, howler monkeys and lion-tailed macaques.

Brick, tile, concrete...more ghastly cages in Berlin.

The indoor enclosures usually incooperate various climbing opportunties.

"Boring", "ghastly", "not fantastic"-when throwing these subjectively biased descriptions around, one should keep in mind that this animal house was built quite a while ago, with different concepts of animal husbandry and architecture back then. Who knows which of the now effusively praised new zoo buildings will be considered "boring" and "ghastly" by a future generation of zoo-fans in the next few decades...The primate exhibits in Berlin will change one day-but not overnight.

Nope, @rillepillekolmard. What I try to convey is: before bashing an exhibit, keep in mind that zoo husbandry and zoo architecture are in a constant, rather transient flow. This is influenced, among others, by scientific and technological progress and/or change of attitude and demands. What was praised today, will be snubbed at tomorrow, and maybe then "re-discovered" praised again the very next day...
Alas, just basing your "judgment" about the quality of a zoo exhibit on one or two photos increases the likeliness to put your foot into your mouth-and make a fool out of yourself.
