Africa - Former Aviary Location

According to this 2013 map, the Aviary held Shoebills, Yellow-billed Storks (which are now in the Sulawesi Aviary, for some reason), Great White Pelicans, and Greater Flamingos.

(Also note the "Singing" Snapping Turtle up in the Black Bear exhibit lol)

This 2015 map only shows Flamingos in the exhibit, with the Shoebills already moved to their current home.

Looking at this picture, my heart is bleeding. To me, TampaZoo gave up a really great aviary..

Truly a huge loss for the zoo world

Anyone know what will take its place? It was so hard to get decent footage since they closed off its access a while back.

@zoomaniac An aviary that was unfortunately doomed from the start. As much of a loss as it was, the materials were poor and were posing a risk to the animals. Same deal with the African Pavilion at North Carolina. *sniff*

@Sarus Crane the tentative plan is to build a new lion exhibit on this space.

@StoppableSan What was bad about the materials? Did the wood deteriorate fast??? Also I figured they closed it off to let the Shoebills nest privately.

@Sarus Crane I'm pretty sure that was the case, better men than me have explained the situation in greater detail elsewhere on ZooChat.

@StoppableSan Haha I said the same thing about the African Pavilion at NC in another picture. Though that one was arguably an even bigger blow to NC than this aviary was to Tampa because of all the different animals they had, whereas with Tampa, they at least still have Shoebills and Yellow-billed Storks elsewhere in the zoo.
