Did you hear about the two young lions who escaped the enclosure in Leipzig a couple of years ago? They were born here in Basel. They managed to get Majo back in the enclosure, but Motseghetsi tried to escape and was shot. I can understand, that you think it's too small. But if I have to decide, I'd rather have a moat that is big enough, so they can't get out. The animal follows it's instincts and if we can, we should protect them from being shot. My 2 cents.
(by the way, the enclosure on the right, the African Wild dogs, did not have a fence at the beginning. One of them fell into the water and was killed by the lions... They built a fence veeery quickly).
