I will have to support rillekolmard in this language debate. In both danish and swedish, the word "aber" (DK) or "apor" (SE) initially covers all monkeys and apes. If it is relevant to the conversation, that the monkeys in question are great apes, we juse the term "menneskeaber" (DK) or "människoapor" (SE), both meaning, like rillekolmard just said, "human monkeys". If however, we talk about monkeys/apes in general, we just say aber/apor.
Language works in a funny way. The technical more correct term would be primates, as we also have that word ("primater"). If you are not very good at english, this can be hard to figure out, therefore rillekolmards confusion
There are different languages where the common man's word for all primates (beside himself) is "monkey"; nevertheless, as you want to discuss about zoo animals on eye-level here, one should be aware of the very basic international systematic categories/terms. "Primates" is just another example for that...
Just a friendly suggestion to Sun Wukong to please stop constantly harassing us Scandinavians (and other "foreigners") because we are not fluent in English. It is getting a bit.... yes, let me use your favorite hate word "BORING". You probably understand what we are trying to say, anyway.
@Dan: Sorry mate, but that has nothing to do with being a "snob"-or "spelling mistakes"; I just think that if you want to talk about zoos, zoo husbandry etc., you should also be familiar with the very basics of biology, among others systematics, to prevent misunderstandings. Otherwise, one is not any better than the average visitor who is again and again mocked at in this forum: "Look Momma at those funky monkeys..."
@ashley-h: There are also more important things in life than putting in your twopenn'orth about zoo pictures, and yet you and I are constantly doing it, aren't we?
