Animal have just stated that the tigers are panthera tigris jacksoni i.e Malayan tigers. Indochinese tigers are panthera tigris corbetti :)

I, and lot of other peple, so animal keepers or other zoo stuff, make not any diffrence between corbetti and jacksoni. And there is no diffrence. Hey, in 2o years any scients will say"Hey, guys, they people twenty years ago were wrong, jacksoni IS the same like corbetti"

The director of both berlin zoo isnt acceppt jacksoni as subspecies also, so you can find on the toger exhibit sign:Indochinese tiger, panthere tigris corbetti.

Is this the same director that claims enrichment is a load of bollocks? Because if so, I would like to question his judgement...

I think it is a problem if the different zoos cannot agree on subspecies since this might be important for the breeding programmes. Anyone knows what the breeding programme co-ordinator says to this? Are malayan and indochinese different subspecies in the EEP?

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but I just stumbled upon it:)

Long story short: Yes they are different subspecies in the EEP. Just for this reason they checked the male in halle.

@Many zoopeople and scientist did not accept the"malayan"tigera s an own subspeciews. Its the same with the"northern"cheetah, theer is no genetical diffrence to the"souther"cheetah, tehy are identical, so no subspecies of cheetahs in africa. And thats the same story with the indochinese tiger, nevertheless, what other people say. So in a couple of years, another guy comes and tell us,"Hey, the malyan tiger is a no own subspeies", all the people will belive him, Hmm ? Only because one guy has the opinion, they are two diffrent subspecies, we have to BELIVE that also ?

Subspecies comes and they go every day......One guy said, teher are 10 subspecies of plains zebras, another said only 5, anothers aid 7, another saif 17, anothers aid 80 !, but a friend og mine, he is working in africa since many years with hoffstock and he made thounsands of pictures of plains zebras said, theer are only two, the eatsern and the souther, so thats my opinion also. i've seen a lot ofthis pictures, theer are no diffrence between Damar and Capman-Zebra and there is only one plains zebra in eastern africa, the Grant zebra. Just another example for the subspecies story, there are many othere xamples.

@Zebraduiker: I understand your point, but isn't that guy ýou know in Africa another expample of "one guy whom we have to believe"? Why should his opinion be any better than the nexts'? And as far as I have seen, I can most times clearly see the difference between a Damara and Chapman's zebra.

@Toddy. Can you tell me teh difrence between a Chapman and a Damara-Zebra ? I ask, because I've seen lot of plains zebra herd in south africa. These herds were full of zebras with striped legs and many with white, unstriped legs, which means this ones were Damara-Zebras. and the other ones are Chapman-Zebras. But strange, chapman zebras are live in Mozambiquie and not in South africa and Namibia......

@Zebraduiker: As far as my observations goes, the damara zebra have broader markings/stripes than the chapmans. But I will admit that I am no expert:)
