These manatees were exported from Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2017 in violation of CITES Appendix I which does not allow their export for trade purposes. Unforunately corrupt government people got away with it. I fear these manatees are not well cared for- in all photos and videos they are too thin, the water quality in the exhibit is terrible, and they are in an exhibit that is bare with nothing to entetain them. It is very frustrating to see.
