@Gigit Someone on YouTube recreated Colchester Zoo on Planet Zoo, I don't know if they meant to but they considerably improved the outdoor enclosure of Rajang's Forest. It might not be possible IRL though. Colchester Zoo Part 43 ' THE END' - YouTube

@Rajang-GOAT Interesting! It does look very attractive though might need some anti-escape features! What a shame the zoo didn't plant some tough shrubs/trees while Rajang was around, He probably wouldn't have bothered pulling them up and they might have got established. Anything they planted now would quickly be destroyed.
@Gigit True, some of my older pictures, probably dating not a lot more than around 4 years ago at most, most likely show either Rajang or Tiga sitting underneath the back left segment of climbing frame, in the far corner, neither were very active! I remember being excited when one of them decided to climb the net at the back of the enclosure, I guess I hoped Mali and Tatty's arrival would lead to the Colchester Zoo orangutans being a bit more active!
@felis silvestris Ye it it doesn't help its in an isolated location from the zoo- it's the other side of the entrance road and is crossed underground after the Sealion tunnel, the fact that it and the church are the only points of interest on this side of the road and the fact you are blocked from the outside world almost completely by either above head hight walls or by being underground also contribute to a depressing feeling of being isolated for both visitors and the orangutans.
One way to improve this enclosure would be to ditch the climbing frames and install a couple of 'plastic' trees like Dublin's above. Nice and high so the orangs could look out, feeding pulleys like Dublin's so they have a reason to climb, and linked by high ropes so they could brachiate.
