I'll be the first to say it: those bird exhibits/tanks/cages are awfully bare. There's not even a lush mural painted on the brick walls, and everything looks barren and stark. Some of the other aviary photos show nicely planted bird cages, but the parrot enclosures in this photo are from the dark ages.
Initially the Berlin Zoo tried planting the parrot section, but the birds would keep destroying the vegetation (potted), i agree that there is many other things they could try and do, to make this exhibits a lot more attractive, hopefully the plans for the new birdhouse are still in effect, with such a massive collection of bird species, it would be a shame not to give them the best birdhouse possible.
The pictures do not show this, but outside the parrot cages there is a very extensive collection of tropical plants in the visitors area, it does not fix the problem, but it makes the birdhouse look a lot better than in this pics.
I agree, there is many things they could actually do to make this section look better, but i just don't think they are too interested, there is many areas in this massive birdhouse that could use an upgrade, but all in all it is a fantastic building.
