Artis - Kerbert Terrace

The Kerbert Terrace exhibit in Artis Amsterdam. It is part of the Predator Gallery and houses lions. The exhibit opened in 1929 and can now well be considered too small for a pride of lions.

How many lions are there in this 80 year-old enclosure? The exhibit would be better suited for red river hogs or any smaller mammal species.

1.5 lions are kept there according to ISIS and this seems about right. I guess the fact that there are still lions in this exhibit is because it is somewhat of a "tradition". It did seem to me that the keepers had done a lot to enrich the animals' lives though. According to their masterplan a new savannah exhibit will being designed for them.

Nice exhibit! I assume this has since been repurposed for another species @Toddy?

@Zoofan15 The exhibit still houses lions, although I believe a new exhibit is planned.

@KevinB Thanks for your reply. Wow, I’d assumed they’d long been relocated to a modern exhibit. When they are, it’d be nice to see this repurposed for a smaller species given it’s history and architecture.
