@Mr Gharial IIRC it was the only one of these back-of-the-zoo grottoes still in use, and given the the large trees and comparatively small inhabitants I'd actually say it's a great interim use of it. The grottoes are slated for demolition in the next couple years to pave way for a new construction project.
Oh, the live tree is definitely a great thing. I'm just saying it's not an amazing enclosure in comparison to other lemur enclosures. It's definitely a good enclosure on it's own though
This exhibit is better with lemurs in it than bears, that's for sure! Also, the enclosure does look better in the summer. Here are a couple of photos that I took on July 17th, 2010.
@snowleopard Yeah that's one of the biggest drawbacks of documenting these zoos in the winter, exhibits look sparser and less vibrant than they do when it's warm and the vegetation is thriving. Even the amount of sunlight vs cloud cover can make subtle changes to how it appears!
