In the mixed African tank. I'm not sure about the ID based on signage. Mamfe tilapia (Coptodon spec. "Mamfe") and Black mouth Cameroon tilapia (Coptodon camerunensis) are the closest resembling species, but I don't know enough about fish to tell which one it is. Help much appreciated.

This is Coptodon spec. "Mamfe". There are also Coptodon deckerti in there, which look almost identical. I have been looking for characteristical differences for many years but I don't seem to find any true deckerti anymore. Thanks to the previous curator I identified almost all similar-looking fish as Mamfe with a few hybrids between the two species. C. camerunensis should be easier to tell apart. A black eye is an easy way to distinguish them from Mamfe/deckerti.

I had an interesting conversation about the differences between Mamfe and deckerti today. Seems like both species are still in the tank. The difference lies in the size (Mamfe is significantly larger), the head bump (like your fish, clearly Mamfe. The bump is missing for deckerti). Colours can also play a part, with the deckerti having a more black belly during breeding season. I will post a real deckerti right now.
