White-handed Gibbon Exhibit

June Exhibit
The zoo did an excellent job converting this enclosure into an indoor gibbon exhibit. It looks unrecognizable from its former iteration as a concrete elephant stall. Are the gibbons and tapirs mixed yet or has that plan been abandoned? I also see an Indian peafowl in a different photo, are they also part of the mix?

Toronto is often touted as Canada's best zoo, but from what I've seen Calgary looks way more interesting. Looking forward to seeing what the upcoming polar bear complex will look like.

@pachyderm pro This building has had a fascinating recent history. From Asian Elephants to Indian Rhinos to Giant Pandas to Malayan Tapirs/White-handed Gibbons/Indian Peafowl to possibly orangutans in the future. Plus there has been at least one or two Komodo dragons in a separate enclosure as well. We'll have to wait and see what's next!

On my visit, the single tapir was separate from the gibbons and it was a tapir/peafowl combo and then the two gibbons next door. In truth, the two outdoor exhibits that were for the Giant Pandas are wasted on a single tapir. I think that Sloth Bears would be a far better option, a species that Calgary Zoo had not too long ago.
