Bush stone curlew

On the front steps of a house.
Very cool photo.

This must be more common in other parts of Australia. In Victoria the main front yard nesters are masked lapwings.
 
@PAT They used to be much harder to see, but are now quite common in several areas of Queensland. Not the most welcome, as they do make a lot of noise, often during the night.
