This exhibit first housed Patagonian sea lions, until the entire group of 27 animals had to be euthanized in 2007 due to tuberculosis cases. It later housed Californian sea lions and finally South American fur seals which moved to the new Wildlands.
It's fascinating to see that Emmen went through several different bear species, as well as several kinds of pinniped. Thanks for the zoological history!
