First thingsI've done at my last visit to the zoo last weekend was to visit the nighthouse in the morning, after opening at 9'o clock. There was still light in the exhibits, and I could do some good pictures.

Flashlight isn't allowed in the nighthouse.

So you've demonstrated that there is at least one more exhibit that houses armadillos and night monkeys. Not exactly an exhaustive synopsis of the "notoriously species-rich" Zoo Berlin's Nocturnal Exhibit. And as far as Berlin Zoo status as "notoriously species-rich" that is not exactly something that is well known here in the United States, as information regarding this zoo in English seems a bit sparse.

And while Tarsius responded to the question, he did in no way, answer the question.

I'm quite enjoying the Tarsius/Sun Wukong double act, they are a bit like a Teutonic Chuckle Brothers.

Termits, in case anyone doesn't know, are the highly solitary variety of an otherwise extremely social insect.

well done
it took me a minute to work that one out :D

@Ituri: Why should I provide "an exhaustive synopsis" if there's plenty to find about Berlin's nocturnal house on the internet, even(!) in English? See, and ye shall find. All I do is just point out the way. And as you appear to love the impression, once again: "notoriously species-rich". ;)

I hope I can consider the Chuckle Brothers comparison a compliment, as I haven't seen any show of them yet. For the "teutonic": what makes you think we're "teutons", eh?:D

As for the (hermit) termites: splendid. Any individual examples? ;)

The Title of the picture reveals the secret, because this is just the Africa Exhibit of the NIGHTHOUSE....

The termites have replaced the african elephants in this exhibt, it is really pitty, it was so wonderful to see what elephants are doing in the night, but the elephants have eaten all the time the aardvark food and the male bushbaby was to agressive against the elephant bull, he was hurt very hard by the whole group of the bushbabies, so he has now big holes in his ears, thats why the elephants moved out and the termits moved in, nobody could know, that"Elise" the Aardavark is eating termits...One of the termits survived , it was send to Dortmund Zoo for an attempt to keep termits together with anteaters.

Who are the Chuckles Brothers ,Pygathrix ? It seems, the british people have a good , natural sense of humor, nowadays, this isn't normally...A lot of zoo"fans" are not really funny people.....I like the evil, black british humor, so I love "A fish called Wanda", one of the best comedies ever made....

Back to the theme. "Is there any other species at Berlin Zoo " ?

If you like A Fish Called Wanda you have probably also seen Fierce Creatures from the same team. It was filmed in Jersey Zoo, unfortunately it is not as funny.

The comparison is neither demeaning nor complimentary. Have You not been able to find Chuckle Brothers on the internet? Dear me, please try harder…

Let me google that for you

For the "teutonic": what makes you think we're "teutons", eh?
The clues are all there…

Unfortunately the termit did not do well, and eventually in a last ditch attempt to save them (even though no-one can really tell them apart from normal termites) the last six in captivity were taken into an obscure Czech Zoo. Top termit reproductive biologists attempted AI, but Dr Hermes broke 2 fingers, Dr Hildebrandt regrettably trod on the last surviving breeding male, and the two of the last three females ended up with rather severe lacerations. The last two animals were taken back to Africa but we cannot give up hope while they are still alive. In any case there are a few frozen termit fetuses which may be implanted into a gaur when the technique has been refined.

@Pygathrix. Yes, I know Fierce Creatures, nice movie with a few good scenes, but nothing more. Wanda is much better.

Hey, why you are soooooo nasty to me because the termites ? This is nooooo Fun, I want to learn here about zoos, and you are sooooo nasty to me.

The last Berlin Termite is now living together with an anteater at Dortmund Zoo, it works very well, because the anteater was kept in a private household from a Peta Member, so he is vegetarian and is eating only marsh potatoes....Now the Zoo is searching for a female termite.

Have you overseen the "yet" in my reply? Anyway, thanks for pointing out the way. Now I have learned something. Hooray! ;)

The clues are all there...
Yet you came to the wrong conclusion, at least when I'm concerned.
"(...)an obscure Czech Zoo."
Ehem. There is nothing like an "obscure" Czech zoo...;)
