This is a composite image showing a few of the zoo's rather unfortunate past exhibits, taken from some of their centennial signs. Not exactly comforting to see, but I also think it's good the zoo acknowledges its less than ideal history. One can see why the Humane Society rated it one of the 10 worse zoos in the US in 1983. But it's also very remarkable how much progress and improvement it has made in the past nearly 40 years.
