@akasha Oh, interesting. They were still saying she was female when the next calf was born the following month. They do make mistakes though - namely with the last chimpanzee infant born at Taronga.
Ntombi is the one giraffe in this sizeable herd of 20+ giraffes that I follow. She was born at Auckland Zoo in 2007 - the last descendant of John, who was imported from Chester Zoo in 1960 and was regarded as Auckland Zoo’s first giraffe given his predecessor in the 20’s didn’t last the week. Unlike her relatives, it’s been nice to see Ntombi enjoy an uninterrupted reproductive life - producing six calves and counting.
