The Enclosure is AWFUL

To come to the defence of the magical Berlin Zoo and to ask you to be a bit careful before you comment and do your research:

A) this is just the indoor holding facility, it can't be worse than at most UK zoos.

B) Berlin Zoo has a reasonably large and good outdoor exhibit for its lions, which was in fact built not so long after WWII if I'm not mistaken, well before most zoos.

Why do zoos dont' pay much attention to inbreeding?

Why do zoos dont' pay much attention to inbreeding?

Ignoring inbreeding is a thing of the past these days, fortunately, at least for major zoos participating in the EAZA, ISIS, etc. However, past thinking in these matters still haunts them in the shape of 'cocktail' animals that they have to house but may not be able to breed from.

The last inbreeding there was 3 months ago.

There are tree lion groups in two exhibits, so Paul and Amira mostly spend their day indoors.

Barbarylions have another shape of their face, a bit longer legs and the fur is mostly darker and has more spots in the face than normal lions.
Barbarylions in zoos are more pure than Amurleopards or wild horses.

There was one male chinese leopard in the very beginning of the amurleopards in european zoos, so many of them are mixed, but too rare to stop the breeding with that line.
